Online Passenger Flow Control in Metro Lines

نویسندگان

چکیده

Crowds management during peak commuting hours is a key challenge facing metro systems worldwide, which results in serious safety concerns and unfair public transit service for commuters on different origin-destination (o-d) pairs. In “Online Passenger Flow Control Metro Lines,” the authors investigate impact of online decision making value passenger flow control solution methodologies. The formulate problem as stochastic dynamic program with fairness (fill rate) constraint exploit Blackwell's approachability theorem Fenchel duality to characterize attainable level each o-d pair. They use these insights develop policies that can enable more passengers boarding train (efficiency) well ensure equitable (fairness) provided Numerical experiments set data from Beijing show this approach performs compared existing benchmarks literature.

Congestion Risk Evaluation and Precaution of Passenger Flow in Metro Stations

Given the security problems of the urban rail transportation, this paper proposes a methodology for congestion risk evaluation and precaution in order to guarantee the safety of passengers and improve the operation efficiency in metro stations. To begin with, we selected the retention rate of the platform, the waiting rate of the ticket gate and the transfer efficiency as the indexes for the st...

Ordering Metro Lines by Block Crossings

A problem that arises in drawings of transportation networks is to minimize the number of crossings between different transportation lines. While this can be done efficiently under specific constraints, not all solutions are visually equivalent. We suggest merging single crossings into block crossings, that is, crossings of two neighboring groups of consecutive lines. Unfortunately, minimizing ...

P System Based Model of Passenger Flow in Public Transportation Systems: a Case Study of Prague Metro

P systems are branch of bio-inspired computing, which takes inspiration from the structure and functioning of a living cell. Current research of P systems focuses mainly on their computational power, applications include biochemical and ecological modeling. In this paper we propose model of passenger flow in metro based on P systems. This model focuses on detailed description of passenger behav...

Optimizing the Energy-Efficient Metro Train Timetable and Control Strategy in Off-Peak Hours with Uncertain Passenger Demands

How to reduce the energy consumption of metro trains by optimizing both the timetable and control strategy is a major focus. Due to the complexity and difficulty of the combinatorial operation problem, the commonly-used method to optimize the train operation problem is based on an unchanged dwelling time for all trains at a specific station. Here, we develop a simulation-based method to design ...

The shortest way to visit all metro lines in Paris

What if {a tourist, a train addict, Dr. Sheldon Cooper, somebody who likes to waste time} wants to visit all metro lines or carriages in a given network in a minimum number of steps? We study this problem with an application to the Parisian metro network and propose optimal solutions thanks to mathematical programming tools. Quite surprisingly, it appears that you can visit all 16 Parisian metr...
